This 2 x 52' documentary mini-series supported by ARTE was presented at the last annual meeting of the EBU Documentary Group.

Based on facts and real-life images this documentary, produced by French based production company Dissidents and directed by David Carr-Brown, will deal with the scientific knowledge about bird flu from Hong Kong to Vietnam to Indonesia to Europe. What do we know about H5N1?

The mini-series will comprise two films:

Part 1: Tracking H5N1
Through a carefully argued scientific investigation, deliberately at odds in tone with alarmist news media, the first film will set out to understand and explain the pandemic: its origins, the way it is spread, the tragic consequences and means of defence.

Part 2: Fighting H5N1
Focused exclusively on the medical and logistical response to the virus as envisioned by individual States and the international community, the second film will deal with questions concerning public health on a global scale.
Why are we unable to anticipate the worst, especially when it is widely predicted? Why is research by national institutions and private laboratories not better coordinated in the face of epidemics that could sweep across borders and ravage the whole planet?

The 1x52' international version will be a smartly edited combination of both these films.
