The Roma people made their way to Europe 600 years ago and are now the largest ethnic minority in the enlarged European Union. They are known as Roma, Gypsies, Sinti, Gitanos, Romanichals, Manouches, but are widely seen as outsiders who reject the social system while enjoying its financial benefits, and many Europeans consider them as the least desirable of neighbours.

"Roma people in Europe" is a series that aims to show the variety of individuals and the cultural richness of the Roma community. Each episode portrays one person in one country, following outspoken protagonists in their daily lives, and tells stories of struggles, emotions and achievements. All the shooting is done on location, in the poorest Roma settlements and in rich residential areas, without any reconstruction or staged scenes.

"Roma people in Europe" is a documentary series  aimed at an audience that is not usually interested in programmes about minorities or multicultural issues. Through interesting stories and appealing people it promotes the view that differences should be accepted. It clearly shows through the variety of broadcasters involved that the situation of the Roma people in northern, southern, in western or eastern Europe is not so homogeneous is as one might think.

Based on the "make one, take all" co-production format, each broadcaster produces one episode at its own cost and receives all the others for free. The guidance of an executive producer guarantees the editorial coherence of the series.

Individual episodes are available for sale.
