Why Poverty? is a global media response to the greatest question of our time: why, in the 21st century, do a billion people still live in dire poverty?

The EBU's Eurovision TV is supporting the Why Poverty? project, which will unite broadcasters internationally behind a week of programmes and reach a global audience of 500 million. The series consists of eight 1-hour documentaries and 30 shorts, a comprehensive online and mobile offer, and an international outreach programme.

The global broadcasting launch is scheduled for 25 November 2012. On 29 November 2012 the Eurovision Theme Day will bring European broadcasters together to focus on the issue across different genres throughout the day.

The eight films by award-winning directors tell compelling and inspiring stories of people who are fighting dire poverty and the structural factors that hold them back.
