The idea is to celebrate some of the most significant, influential and successful singers and bands in the world. This celebration can be for various major anniversaries but also for a musical genre or a particular decade for example.

The aim is to honour these singers and bands in a programme or event, driven by the European Broadcasting Union and its Member broadcasters in partnership with various record companies.

"The Tribute to" Working Group has agreed to develop a ranking show that could include archive material, video clips and singers on stage. The show could focus on 20–25 songs, with one best national song selected online and a European show that would end up with a winning song.

A detailed format is under development and will be presented at various meetings during the course of 2012.
