An epic story of a doomed love affair between two slaves, Rosetta and Abel, set against the backdrop of slavery on the Cape circa 1800 when South Africa was still under colonial rule.

When a young Malay slave, ABEL, discovers that BAAS WALTERS, his white master, is raping ROSETTA, his beloved, Abel's attempt to murder Walters lands him on Robben Island for life. When Rosetta is sold to another slave-master, JOHANNES LAUBSCHER, who continues where Walters left off, Abel's rage crystallizes into a plan with fellow Robben Island inmates to mount a rebellion that will liberate all enslaved peoples in the Cape, crush the white ruling class, and re-unite him with Rosetta. This is Rosetta and Abel's story, a moving story of love & revolution in the days of slavery.

This period mini-series in development  is currently co-written by South African writers J. Abrahams and R. Fortune and Dutch Emmy Award-winning screenwriters Alma Popeyus and Hein Shutz.
It will be produced by FireWorx Media (South Africa) and Rinkel Film (Netherlands), with the  support of SABC.
