In cooperation with YouTube.com and the Italian company Digital Magics, the Interactive TV Unit of Eurovision TV successfully launched its first full-scale user-generated content (UGC) project in 2007. The initiative will be expanded in the run-up to the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.

Be A Winner is a karaoke competition for fans of the Eurovision Song Contest. They can upload their own performances or versions of   the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest entries onto YouTube, and enter the karaoke competition. A jury of television and music professionals will pick the winner in May 2008. So far, the video of the 2007 winner has been watched over 45,000 times. You can still see the winner.

The fans’ videos were viewed some 80,000 times on YouTube during May 2007 alone, while television broadcasts of the videos by various European television stations reached an audience of some 3 million viewers.

EBU members are invited to take part in this project by actively promoting Be A Winner and to explore and expand user-generated content activities.

Following the positive results of Be A Winner, the Interactive TV Unit will continue to work with YouTube on various new UGC initiatives in relation to the Eurovision Family of events (the Eurovision Song Contest, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and the Eurovision Dance Contest).
