Based on the successful format of the Best of European Opera 2010, this 60-minute programme will feature the best performances from known and lesser known opera houses in Europe in 2011–12 and showcase some of the outstanding artistic moments and performers of the year from on European stages. 

The performances proposed by CT, NTR, TVE, LTV1, DR, ARD, NRK, RTSH, BNT and ORF are currently being shortlisted.

The programme will be presented by Kaspar Holten, former artistic director of the Royal Danish Opera, who took the reins from Elaine Padmore in 2011 as Director of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

It will be delivered in November 2012, in order to be ready for broadcast in end-of-the-year season slots.
