The Eurovision Young Dancers competition is open to solo dancers aged between 15 and 20, from EBU Member broadcasters. The aim of the competition is to provide a showcase for top-class contemporary artistic dance performances and bringing the finest young dancers to international attention, in front of a large television audience.
This event is co-branded with the Eurovision Young Musicians, the classical music competition, both of which having been running since the 1980s.

In 2011, Daniel Modou Sarr from Norway won the Eurovision Young Dancers contest in Oslo.
A professional jury selected the winner, who performed dance styles incorporating jazz, contemporary and hip hop. Viewers from across Europe watch the show either live or by deferred broadcast.

Erik Solbakken, the popular Norwegian TV host and co-host of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, hosted the show, which featured 10 dancers from the following countries and broadcasters: Norway (NRK), Germany (WDR), Sweden (SVT), The Netherlands (NPS), Croatia (HRT), Greece (ERT), Slovenia (RTVSLO), Portugal (RTP), Poland (TVP) and Kosovo (RTK).

The new format featured solo performances by each participant, then a ‘group dance’, in which the dancers were divided into two groups. The jury then selected a finalist from each group and the two then performed a ‘dance-off‘ dual to decide the winner.

The choreographer of the event is Ed Wubbe, one of Europe's finest artistic directors. The honorary jury board included:
• Ilze Liepa (Russia): Russian classical ballet dancer/choreographer;
• Ballet Boyz (UK), Michael Nunn & William Trevitt (UK): modern dance;
• Fredrik Rydman (Sweden): hip-hop choreographer.
