Mankind’s dream has always been to live as long as possible. If we have to get old, we’d like it to be as late and as well as possible.

This is the challenge for a population such as ours that is getting collectively older and in which, in the industrialized countries, 90% of people now live beyond 65. This novel situation is pushing forward medical research and scientific research in general.

Why and how do we age? What present-day discoveries and hypotheses might one day allow us to control the complex processes of aging, slow its effects, or even extend life expectancy?

"A lasting desire to last" is written like an investigation by a woman approaching her 60s who humorously and light-heartedly wonders about the reasons for aging and the different ways to slow it down. Based on the fact that aging also affects our physical appearance, and that we see ourselves age in the way others see us, our detective imagines, through a type of Photo fit image, how her own face is changing.

The narration is provided by an off-screen voice identified as being that of the "detective". Throughout the film the greatest specialists, recognized researchers, and biologists will talk about their experiments and will share their thoughts and ideas about life and aging.

"A lasting desire to last" has been awarded the Art Prize during the 3rd "International Science Film Festival" in Athens.
