Series about life inside and outside our body presented by world-famous photographer Lennart Nilsson.

There is a spot where fifteen million inhabitants gather on a surface that would easily fit onto the point of a pin. Together they have built a city that both produces and communicates perfectly. Surrounding this city there are over ten thousand billion similar cities which, in an almost inconceivable way, supply, protect and communicate with each other. These cities are your cells. Together they comprise the planet that is our body, in that solar system that is humanity.

In this series Lennart Nilsson reveals the massive amount of incredible micro-activity and processes that are working every second of your life to make you who you are. It becomes a thrilling story closer to yourself than anything you’ve ever heard before.

With the use of the most advanced photography, enhanced with CGI, Lennart Nilsson will take us to the micro-environments of our body, with a degree of focus and definition we have never seen before.

In  two one-hour  programmes:

- The City of Life: As if travelling backwards in a spaceship we journey into the cells that give us life. As if in a modern city, we compare the work of architects and engineers with that of the microscopic construction workers in every cell of our body. The similarities are striking. Lennart Nilsson reveals how various types of cells are made up, how they function and the remarkable way they work together.

- The Forest of War: Anywhere in the world: in the forests of Africa or the streets of Berlin, microscopic enemies are threatening our future. A constant war is fought on and inside our body. This programme takes us on a microscopic journey into our immune system, the most remarkable of all our body's functions. Here we meet billions of soldiers fighting for our lives. Among them are the macrophages that kill attackers by swallowing them like ravenous snakes, and the antibodies, our body’s smallest defenders, yet one of its most skilful weapons.
